paints, which ones: wash - ink - contrast

I use Vallejo Game Color Acrylfarben-a basic set.
They work well and I like them.
But when I add a dark varnish/wash at the end, everything goes realy dark.
After seeing some of the pics posted here, I'm not very happy with my results thus far.

I've been looking at inks and washes ans contrast paints and was wondering what you use.

Hello, I use Vallejo and Citadel paints for my 15mm paint job. My technique is simple, I apply a white undercoat then I paint the flat areas. Once this is done I apply strong tone from army painter on the figures for the white uniforms I replace the strong tone by soft tone from army painter. Once it's dry I go back to my base paints to lighten the figure. I usually mix my base paints with a bit of beige colour and work mainly on the protruding parts of the figure to give the effects of fabric movement and shadows. For the backpacks and face I also use Citadel contrast paint. If anyone is interested I can do a tuto on the forum.
